Amber Tippel and Nicole Taute, both Grade 10 students at Woodlands International College were recently honoured at a gala awards ceremony at the University of the Witwatersrand. The girls entered into the 2018 Materials Science Poster Competition. This competition is run by the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence in Strong Materials and aims to promote excellence in Science and Technology. Poster submissions were received from schools across the country, in various categories. On Thursday, 18 October at the Wits Club on the West Campus of Wits University, our two learners received the following special awards:
Nicole Taute: Special Award for Scientific Comprehension
Amber Tippel: Special Award for Creativity
They each received certificates as well as Takealot vouchers for R350. Carla Kalweit, their Physical Science teacher who supported their entries and assisted the girls during the research and design process of the poster design, was also recognized on the day with a certificate and award.
