Cellphones and Smartwatches
We understand the importance of students having the means to contact their families in emergency situations, beyond the academic day.
The College takes no responsibility for the loss of cellphones / smart watches.
- The student’s cell phone / tracker / smart watch may not be used during the academic day. Phones are collected by staff or handed in by students directly to the office daily and locked away for safekeeping until the end of the academic day.
- In the case of an emergency students should report to the office where they may make use of the telephone in reception.
- Should any student ignore this Policy, their cell phone / smart watch will be sent to office, in an envelope, for safe keeping for the remainder of the academic day.
- The student’s name, class and date must be clearly written on the envelope.
- The student’s name, date and staff member’s name will be filled in on the relevant form.
- Legally we cannot confiscate a cell phone / smart watch beyond the academic day. If a student is caught using a cell phone / smart watch it will be sent to the office for safe keeping and must be collected by the child’s parent / guardian after the academic day has concluded.
- Should the cell phone / smart watch need to be retained for a longer period as evidence in a disciplinary situation, the College will contact the parents and inform them that their child is no longer in possession of the cell phone / smart watch.
Any use of cellphones / smart watches other than in the above circumstances is strictly prohibited.
