Mini-Hockey is offered in the Junior College from Grade 1 to Grade 3. Outsourced coaches are employed for the duration of the hockey season to maintain smaller groups on the sports field. In mini-hockey our teams are mixed with boys and girls, and friendly matches are arranged for them in the afternoon. Mini-Hockey is taught during an integrated sports lesson during the school day, which is extended to accommodate the time spent on the field.
Woodlands Junior College caters for boys and girls of all age groups in our Hockey programme. Hockey is a growing sport, and we make use of our own grass fields as well as the Easterns Astro-turf on occasion. We have multiple specialised and outsourced coaches who assist our own Sport staff with coaching and team management. Through the participation in school trials, several of our Hockey players have annually represented Woodlands on the Eastern Gauteng Team travelling to a variety of Inter-Provincial Tournaments.
With the completion of the Matthews Hall Indoor Sports Centre, Indoor Hockey has been opened up to our Intermediate Phase hockey players to the fast-paced skills of Indoor Hockey as well as exposing them to the skills of the seasoned players as the Matthews Hall has become the home of Eastern Gauteng Men’s Indoor Hockey as well as South Africa’s Indoor Hockey.
